Radiography is the use of the property of X-rays to cross materials and view inside objects. The impact on society of this technique has also been immense and Guam Radiology Consultants make effective use of this tehcnology to benefit our patients.

Arthrography

Conventional arthrography is the x-ray examination of a joint that uses a special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy and a contrast material containing iodine. The procedure is most often used to identify abnormalities within the shoulder, wrist, hip, knee and ankle.

Bone Densitometry

Bone density scanning is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss. DXA is today's established standard for measuring bone mineral density (or BMD). DXA is most often performed on the lower spine and hips. In children and some adults, the whole body is sometimes scanned. Peripheral devices that use x-ray or ultrasound are sometimes used to screen for low bone mass. In some communities, a CT scan with special software can also be used to diagnose or monitor low bone mass (QCT). This is accurate but less commonly used than DXA scanning.

Children's (Pediatric) Voiding Cystourethrogram

A children's (pediatric) voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) is an x-ray examination of a child's bladder and lower urinary tract that uses a special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy and a contrast material.A voiding cystourethrogram enables a radiologist, a physician specifically trained to supervise and interpret radiology examinations, to detect abnormalities in the flow of urine through the urinary tract. This examination is often recommended after a urinary tract infection to check for a condition known as vesicoureteral (or VU) reflux.

Hysterosalpingography

Hysterosalpingography, also called uterosalpingography, is an x-ray examination of a woman's uterus and fallopian tubes that uses a special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy and a contrast material. Hysterosalpingography is primarily used to examine women who have difficulty becoming pregnant by allowing the radiologist to evaluate the shape and structure of the uterus, the openness of the fallopian tubes, and any scarring within the peritoneal cavity.

Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)

An intravenous pyelogram (or IVP for short) is an x-ray examination of the kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder that uses iodinated contrast material injected into veins. An intravenous pyelogram examination helps the physician assess abnormalities in the urinary system, as well as how quickly and efficiently the patient's system is able to handle waste. The exam is used to help diagnose symptoms such as blood in the urine or pain in the side or lower back.

Myelography

Myelography provides a very detailed picture (called a myelogram) of the spinal cord and spinal column. It is an imaging examination that involves the introduction of a spinal needle into the spinal canal and the injection of contrast material in the space around the spinal cord and nerve roots using a real-time form of x-ray called fluoroscopy . When the contrast material is injected into the subarachnoid space, the radiologist is able to view and evaluate the status of the spinal cord, nerve roots, and meninges, which are the membranes which surround and cover the spinal cord and nerve roots.
